Overview

AdSpark is a Munich-based ad-tech startup that enables small and medium businesses (SMBs) to create, automate, and deploy video ad campaigns across various publishers — all from their mobile phones. I joined the project to design an intuitive mobile app that would help SMB owners promote their businesses digitally, without needing advanced marketing knowledge or large budgets.


Challenge

Many small business owners struggle with digital advertising due to limited time, budget, or marketing expertise. They often feel overwhelmed by complex platforms or don’t have access to a dedicated marketing team. Our goal was to design a simple, step-by-step tool that makes creating and launching an ad campaign both accessible and enjoyable.


Goals

  • Help users create ad campaigns in a few intuitive steps

  • Reduce friction and cognitive load for first-time users

  • Provide clear feedback, campaign analytics, and control over performance

  • Empower SMBs to enjoy the process and feel confident in their advertising

  • Entrepreneurs with limited marketing resources

  • Businesses looking to drive brand awareness, generate leads, attract talent, or increase foot traffic


Design Approach


  1. Onboarding Experience

    Introduced a lightweight onboarding flow to guide new users through campaign creation and video editing. This reduced cognitive load and improved first-time user experience.


  2. Campaign Setup

    Designed a step-by-step flow for campaign targeting, allowing users to easily define:

  • Preferred audience (location, age, gender)

  • Publishing platforms

  • Start/end dates and daily budget


  1. Dashboard & Analytics

    Created a dashboard showing real-time metrics like reach, clicks, and website visits, with filters for deeper insights. This gave users control and clarity on campaign performance.


  1. Support & Drafts

Added a Drafts section so users could save and resume campaigns at any time. Designed a built-in FAQ and contact option to support users without external help.


Feedback & Iteration

After completing the interactive prototype, I presented it to the business owner. Based on feedback, I introduced:

  • Voice-over functionality for videos

  • More accessible editing tools for quicker campaign setup


Outcomes

  • Launched a fully functional MVP with a user-friendly interface

  • Positive user feedback on ease of use and flow clarity

  • Validated concept with strong early-stage adoption interest
